==בית כנסת עתיק==<br />

במעון נמצאו שרידי [[בית כנסת]], שלפי המשוער נבנה במחצית השנייה של [המאה ה-4 או תחילת המאה ה-5. ציר הבנייה הוא דרום-צפון, דהיינו כמקובל לכיוון ירושלים. הבנייה דרשה חציבה. הקירות היו עבים : 90- 100 ס"מ, הגג היה גמלוני, כמו בסוסיא ורצפת [[פסיפס]].<br />

המימצא החשוב של בית הכנסת הוא תריסר חלקים של [[מנורת שבעת הקנים]] תלת-מימדית עשויה מ[[שיש]] לבן. לפי אומדן שחזורה, גובה הגיע לידי 1,60 - 1,80 מטר.[[צבי אילן]] שהיה שותף לגילויה מתאר אותה כך: " קניה )קני המנורה), שהיו עשויים מקשה אחת, עוצבו בצורת חוליות מעוגלות ("תפוחים") שהלכו וקטנו כלפי מעלה. בבסיס כל חוליה גולף עלה ("פרח". קוטר התפוח התחתון הוא 16,5 ס"מ ןקורט התפוח העליום 6.5 ס"מ . בין קני המנורה היו עיטורים מגולפים ששימשו לחיזוקהץ זו הייתה מנורה כבדה ביותר, כ-120 ק"ג משקלה (משקל החלקים שנמצאו הוא 25 ק"ג). בסיס המנור היה מרובע או מדורג. בתחתית התפוחהתחתון של הקנה המרכזי חצוב חור מרובע לקיבוע מוט ברזל ("מסמר") שבעזרתו חובר גוף המנורה לבסיס.<br />

==הקשר בין כרמל לבין מעון==<br />
<br />
הפסוק מספר שמואל מסביר את הקשר בין שני היישובים: "וְאִישׁ בְּמָעוֹן וּמַעֲשֵׂהוּ בַכַּרְמֶל" - כלומר במעון- בתי מגורים ובכרמל - מרכז כלכלי. עם הגילוי של בית כנסת קדום ב[[מעון(אתר מקראי)|מעון]], ומבני מגורים אחדים, במדרון הצפוני של תל מעון, דרומית לכרמל, צבי עמית אעלה את ההשערה כי יהודי כרמל למעשה גרו במעון. מעון הייתה כעין "שכונה" של כרמל. שהרי עקב היות כרמל בסיס מינהלי וצבאי יש להניח כי היהודים לא ירצו להתגורר בקרבתו. בכרמל נמצאו שרידים של שלוש כנסיות אבל לא שרידים יהודיים מעל פני הקרקע. <br />

נמצאו גם שרידי דרך רחבה, הסלולה בקו ישר, מכרמל למעון, כעין רחוב מקשר בין שני המקומות. מכאן מסקנתו של החוקר כי היישוב היהודי במעון היה חלק מו המערך היישובי של כרמל. מעניין לציין כי אסוביוס אינו מציין קיום ישוב יהודי במעון. כך שההשערה שמעון היא חלק מכרמל רבתי עשויה להתקבל על הדעת.<br />
