בפרשת ואתחנן, לעומת זאת, כאשר מובאת השאלה "מָה הָעֵדֹת וְהַחֻקִּים וְהַמִּשְׁפָּטִים אֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ אֶתְכֶם"? מובאת תשובה שונה, ארוכה ומפורטת יותר: "עֲבָדִים הָיִינוּ לְפַרְעֹה בְּמִצְרָיִם וַיּוֹצִיאֵנוּ יְקֹוָק מִמִּצְרַיִם בְּיָד חֲזָקָה..." ועוד ארבעה פסוקים המפרטים את יציאת מצרים.
