נולד בקרית אלקאבל שב[[תימן]] לרב חיים אלנדאף וגדל ב[[צנעא]]. אחיו היה ר' סעדיה אלנדאף, מחבר הספר "עץ החיים". מצד אמו היה נכדו של מארי [[יחיא בדיחי]]. בשנת [[1891]] עלה הרב אלנדאף ל[[ארץ ישראל]] יחד עם חברו הרב שלום אלשיך הלוי. <br />

בהגיעו לירושלים התגורר ב{{ה|עיר העתיקה}} והיה ממקימי [[כפר השילוח]] בסמוך ל[[עיר דוד]]. שימש מנהיג קהילת התימנים ב[[ירושלים]] ועמד בראשה במשך 35 שנים. הקים בית עלמין ב[[הר הזיתים]] ואת ועד קהילת התימנים. ייסד תלמודי תורה, ישיבות, בתי כנסיות, בתי מדרשות ועמד בראש ישיבת תורת משה. נלחם במיסיון שניסה להשפיע על בני קהילתו. יחד עם מארי [[יחיא יצחק הלוי]] ואחרים התנגד לתנועת ה[[דרדעים]]. שימש כאב"ד בבית הדין של הקהילה שאותו הקים והעמיד בראשו את הרב שלום אלשיך הלוי. <br />

בשנת תרס"ד ([[1904]]) הקים הרב אברהם אלנדאף את חברת "שיבת ציון", במטרה לרכוש קרקעות לצורך התיישבות חקלאית כפתרון לבעיות הדיור והפרנסה של עולי תימן. ניסיון זה לא הניב פירות בסופו של דבר. <br />

בתמיכת רוב אנשי הקהילה, ובהתנגדות חוג מצומצם יחסית בראשות הרב יחיא צארום, פעל הרב אלנדאף להשגת "פרמאן", רישיון מממשלת [[טורקיה]], על כך שיהודי תימן נחשבים לקהילה נפרדת. אנשי הכוללים הספרדיים התנגדו לכך בתוקף ובמשך תקופה ארוכה נאלץ להסתתר מהם. הוא יצא בחשאי ל[[איסטנבול]] ופגש שם את הרב הראשי של הקהילות היהודיות באימפריה, הרב [[משה הלוי ישראל]]. הפרמאן הגיע בסופו של דבר כעבור חצי שנה, בערב ראש השנה ב[[ניסן]] [[תרס"ח]]. בעקבותיו הוקמו מערכות חדשות, ללא תלות בכולל הספרדים. <br />

כתב את קורות חייו, ואת קורות יהודי תימן, בספר "זכור לאברהם". כתב קונטרס בשם "מבשר טוב" בשבחה של ארץ ישראל בו הוא מלהיב את יהודי תימן לעלות לארץ ישראל בהמוניהם וליישב אותה. טרח להביא לדפוס ראשון ספרי קודש של יהדות תימן, עריכת "תאג'" הראשון שיצא בדפוס של יהדות תימן (כתר תורה) וסידור התפילה נוסח יהודי תימן בלדי אשר מיוסד על פי כתב יד של [[מהרי"ץ]] אשר היה תחת ידו. הוציא לאור חיבורים של חכמי תימן. <br />

הרב אלנדאף עבר לגור ב[[שכונת הבוכרים]] ובשנותיו האחרונות בשכונת [[כרם התימנים]] שב[[תל אביב]], יחד עם רעייתו, ידידה, שלושת בניו ובתו. כחודש לפני פטירתו ביקש מבניו להעבירו בחזרה לירושלים. נפטר בי"ב באדר א' הת"ש, בגיל 74 ונטמן בבית העלמין ב[[הר הזיתים]] בירושלים.<br />
