B'Har deals primarily with Shmita & Yovel. Every 7 years, Hashem commands the Land to rest. G-d promises a special blessing so we will have enough to eat for 3 years even when the fields lie fallow. In the 50th year of Yovel, land reverts back to its original owner; slaves are freed & debts canceled.

We are commanded to assist the poor through tzedaka & chesed, & by raising them to help themselves. We may not charge interest on loans to fellow Jews. We are to observe Shabbat & shun idolatry. We may not oppress others, by word or deed, even refraining from referring to a convert's past life.

    When Galut is Necessary & When Not?

    Rav Kook differentiates between sins of manners, sins of the individual and those of an entire country or society. In the latter case, gentile nations leave the stage of history, but Israel (which cannot be wiped out) is sent to exile. Rav Kook explains this important idea with so many ramifications in life and Torah, via the letter Yud, which is the smallest letter, and rationally explains its Kabbalistic meanings and usage. The class is a great example of how Rav Kook harmonizes and combines rational philosophy and logical Kabbala.
