Rabbi Chaim Tabasky

Hello Rabbi,

I see on your web site an answer that references a ruling that bowing to a ruler out of respect is permitted, so long as that is not a form of deification or worship. Does this ruling also apply to other times when some cultures use bowing as a form of respect, not worship? It came up in the context of martial arts, where bowing to one’s opponent or teacher is customary.

If the bow is a matter of custom and curtesy, it is permitted.

I want to ask a question related to this answer
