Question
How can we respond to questions about our anticipated Messiah together with our expectations when confronted with Isaiah 53? Thank you very much for your precious time.
Answer
We are consoled, not “confronted” by Isaiah 53 which, according to most commentaries, talks about the suffering inflicted by the gentile nations on the nation of Israel that remains, despite the suffering, loyal to G-d. Members of those very same nations have had the “chutzpa” to distort the Biblical text to find support for their idolatrous belief deifying a Jewish heretic who lived at the time of the second Temple. Pathetic!
