Gezel in Noachide Law
Question
BS”D
Shalom Kvod Ha Rav,
Does theft constitute the same for Noachides than for the Jews? If not, what specific laws apply to Noahides in regards to this matter?
Answer
Shalom,
Thank you for your question. In general the laws of theft are the same for a non-Jew as for a Jew. However, there are some slight differences, such as those found in the Talmud (Sanhedrin 57), which indicate that the laws of theft are slightly stricter for a non-Jew than for a Jew. For example, the punishment for stealing even small amounts of money are stricter.
On a practical level, both a Jew and a non-Jew should avoid all forms of theft.
Blessings.
