Question
Where does the Maharal write that you don’t have to learn every Tosfos on the Amud? Does anyone disagree with the Maharal?
Answer
The Maharal in Netivot Olam, Netiv Hatorah 5, p. 25, complains that many young people don’t cover too many mesechtot in the Talmud because they spend so much time on understanding the Tosafot. He adds that this is just because the Tosafot are printed alongside the gmara, whereas if the halachot of the Rosh were printed there, the masses would know this more basic practical necessity.
