Question
What is the Orthodox view of cosmetic surgery for women?
Answer
Cosmetic surgery for women is definitely allowed, and if a woman’s looks may be preventing her from getting married, it’s even encouraged. Similarly, a great halachic authority, HaRav Dov Leor has publicized his response that in certain specific cases, one may even transgress the Shabbat to minimize permanent scarring to a woman’s face, even if her life isn’t endangered.
