Orthodox Jewish view on abortion
Question
Under normal circumstances when a couple consummates the marriage and the woman conceives, then all of a sudden they decide to abort the child on grounds that they cannot afford to raise a child at the moment. Would in this case, abortion be deemed sinful? What is the Orthodox Jewish view of abortion under normal circumstances?
Answer
It is forbidden to abort a fetus in normal circumstances, like in the case which you mentioned. In any case which may seem like an extenuating circumstance, a rabbinic halachic authority must be consulted.
