Question
My daughter is due to give birth in July, PG-d, she does not wish to give the baby a Jewish name and my husband is outraged. I said we can only tell them what we think the rest is up to them and their conscience. What do you think?
Answer
You should do what you can to persuade the parents to give their child a Jewish name. More important the baby should- if it’s a boy- have a brit and should receive- as he/she grows up- an education that will encourage the child to maintain ties with the Jewish people and with you. While pushing for a Jewish name, you should not do anything that could sever or even jeapordize those ties.
