Question
Who is God and where can I find him to feel a connection?
Answer
Firstly, please allow me to admire your idealism and search for truth.
God is the Creator, the Torah-Giver, and the One Who runs history. He is seen most clearly through the wonders of His creation, & His nation of Israel, through: our example, our prophets, the ultimate revelation before the entire nation at Mount Sinai, through our living His super-moral and idealistic Bible (the most popular book in history), through seeing how He runs the eternal Jewish history, and more recently, fulfilling the prophecies of our national redemption and helping the State of Israel succeed. Accordingly, there are 4 ways of feeling a connection:
1. By connecting with our nation, supporting and best of all, participating & actively being a member of the State of Israel.
2. Through intellectual study and in-depth analysis of the Torah, through Judaic classes of your level and your language, which can be easily found today on the web.
3. Through emotional prayer, singing and dancing at your local synagogue (some you may find "dry", so ask a rabbi to help you keep looking until you find one that suits you).
4. Through being like God, Imitateo Dei, and emulating Him by observing His mitzvot which are His handbook directing us how to be like Him. That is to develop the godliness which we each have inside us, in our unique Jewish soul.
