Question
Rabbi,
I have a question about handling money on shabbat. I believe money on shabbat is muktzeh and we are even encouraged to put it away where we cant see it. There are some families that I know that have a tzedakah box that they put money in on shabbat. Is this something that we should wait to do until after havdalah? Or because it is tzedakah does that mean it is okay to handle the money?
Thank you!
Answer
Thank you for your question,
You are correct. Money is muktzeh and it's forbidden to put money in a tzedakah box on shabbat. It is permitted only after havdalah.
All the best!
