maaser on passion fruit on fence
Question
Do I need to take maaser on passion-fruit growing along the fence?
The bush is more than 5 years old.
If yes, how do I do it?
Many thanks.
Answer
I’m sorry it took so long to answer, but there was a problem at the website, and I just received your important question today, and am answering immediately.
Yes, one must take trumot and ma’asrot from passion-fruit growing along the fence. The easiest way is to take 3 minutes and contact the Machon HaTorah v’HaAretz, to buy (over the phone) partnership in their program for trumot and ma’asrot. Their website is: http://www.toraland.org.il/about-us.aspx or call: 08-6847325 or write: machon@toraland.org.il
Afterwards, after bringing the fruit indoors, you take a little more than 1% of the fruit, and say the brachot and wording as directed in your siddur or the wording you can download from the aforementioned website (this year and next year it’s ma’aser sheni and not ma’aser ani, and that will change in two years from now). Afterwards, take that 1% you removed, double-wrap it in plastic sandwich bags or something similar, and than you can place it in the garbage.
