Question
Over a year ago I did laundry on Rosh CHodesh by mistake (but I did not actually need to do the laundry--I did it due to anxiety for a bad reason). Now are those clothes forever ruined? If someone touches them or if they touch other items, arethose ruined?
What about wash that another Jewish person (a nonobservant relative) did on CholHoamoed?
Answer
Shalom,
Thank you for your question. The bottoms line is that all the clothing is permitted.
Now for some background. Women not doing laundry on Rosh Chodesh is a custom – and is not practiced by all.
Not doing laundry during the intermediate days of Chol HaMoed, is not just a custom, but a law. However, there are many cases where it is permitted.
In neither case do the cloth get any forbidden status if the wrong thing was done. And we never find today that touching forbidden items forbids other items.
Blessings.
