Kashrut Supervision on Vitamin D Drops
Question
Do unflavored vitamin d drops need a hechsher? Its other ingredients are: medium chain triglycerides (RSPO certified palm kernel and coconut) ,organic flaxseed oil, natural vitamin E.
Answer
Shalom,
Thank you for your question. There could be many issues in relation to the kosher status of vitamins. In general, it is advisable to purchase them with a kashrut supervision (hechsher). If this is not an option, then taking them will depend on two things – firstly, the status of the drops. It is almost impossible to know the kashrut status of vitamin drops merely by reading the label. Secondly, why are they being taken. The law is different if someone is sick, the level of sickness, or if taken as a food supplement.
With this in mind, you should try to obtain some drops which have Rabbinic supervision.
Blessings.
