King David’s Royal Lineage Today
Question
In Jeremiah 33:17 the Almighty promised King David would always have someone to sit on his throne in the House of Israel. Who is that person today? And who have been the most important descendants of his since the State of Israel gained Indepedence?
Answer
Shalom Geoff,
The Jewish oral tradition explains that verse that eventually the Davidic dynasty will return and then will be eternal. It actually cannot be explained otherwise, for the Bible itself recounts that Zedkiyahu was the last King of that dynasty who actually ruled, until it will be renewed. There are some families in Israel who retain their detailed lineage back to David’s Judean dynasty, but we must wait and see which of them will be worthy and accepted.
With Love of Israel,
Rav Ari Shvat
