Question
HI, just wondering as humans we are born with a spirit, soul, energy, different gifts, etc. can they ever be taken from us, can they actually leave us throughout life through traumatic events, etc?
Answer
We are witness to unfortunate tragedies where a person can, through physical or psychological trauma, forget or lose certain powers, talents or gifts. Nevertheless, Judaism believes that in the world-to-come and in the revival-of the-dead, these are returned to him. In addition, the Godly "neshama" part of the soul, can never be extinguished.
