Question
Is it permitted to light candles for pleasure other than for Shabbos, Yom Tov, Chanukah and Yartzeit? Also what candles should be used and can they have a fragrance?
Thank you so much
Answer
ב"ה
Shalom
Lighting candles for Shabbat or on Chanuka is a mitzva. However, this does not mean we are not allowed to light candles for other ocassions such as for dinner, for decorations, for pleasure or for a birthday cake. They may also have a fragrance.
All the best
