Ask the Rabbi
Question
I’m debating about buying another sheitl or trying hair extensions. If hair extensions cover all of my hair, is that halachicly acceptable? Thanks.
Answer
Hashem Imach,
If it really covers all your hair, or leaves up to 4 cm. uncovered,
than it shouldn’t be different than a wig (sheitl) and would be
permissible (so why is it called an “extension”?). Nevertheless, just
like with wigs, one must be careful not to wear something which is
especially attracting, which defeats a main purpose of the mitzvah of
haircovering for married women.
