Question
I heard that we recite a bracha on the birth of a child. When is this done and is there a difference between boys and girls?
Answer
Shalom U'verachah,
There are several opinions regarding this, but it is generally accepted that when the husband sees his son he should recite the blessing "HaTov U'HaMetiv" and at the birth of a girl he should say "Shehecheyanu".
