Question
How can NRP join with Shinui ? With this move any thing religious left in the state of israel is now in jeopardy.
Answer
Since this is not a political column, I will not comment on the wisdom (or lack of it) of any given coalition. There is no halachic prohibition against sitting in the government with parties who espouse positions that are wrong and dangerous as long as these positions are not adopted as national policy as a result. “Politics is the art of the possible” and any arrangement must be compared to the alternatives. There is a possibility that the present coalition will lead to a greater respect for Tradition and disassociate Torah from some of the negative aspects of the bureaucracy and from the avoidance of IDF service that have caused a “hillul hashem”.
