Can I count Omer early?
Question
I just returned from Israel and I’m jet lagged. Its 4pm EST I’m about to fall asleep and I haven’t counted Omer for tomorrow. Can I count now w/bracha? [It’s already 11:30pm for my body clock] When and what do I count?
Answer
The time of counting the Omer is according to local time, not according to one’s biological clock, so it is impossible to count for the next day. The right thing to do is to go to sleep and make sure that someone will wake you up at night in order to count the Omer with a Brachah. If you cannot get up at night, count the next day without a Brachah and you will be able to continue counting with a Brachah.
