Cohanim marriage and cemetery
Question
1. Can a cohen marry a forensic doctor?
2. Can a cohen enter a non jewish cemetery or walk along a grave (in a touristic trail for instance, without him knowing in advance that there would be a grave there..) which steps should be taken afterwards? (washing hands?)
Thanks
Answer
1. Only a male cohen is required by halacha not to defile himself by coming in the proximity of a dead person. A cohen's wife even if she herself were a "cohenet" (born from a father who is a cohen) would not be required to refrain from visiting a cemetery. Therefore, it doesn't seem that a marrying a forensic doctor would be any different.
2. It is best that a cohen not enter a non-Jewish cemetery. (See Shulchan Aruch Yoreh Deah 372 :2). Washing of the hands alone does not solve the problem of a cohen who became impure.
