Question
Why is Rosh Hodesh a holiday traditionally associated with women?
Answer
2 explanations are provided by Halacha authorities:
1. That the 12 months of Rosh Chodesh were intended to be a holiday for the 12 tribes. However, when they worshipped the Golden Calf, they lost the holidays; but the women, who did not worship it, still have it.
2. the approximately monthly cycle that is part of a woman’s life, and allows her to celebrate with her husband, is hereby commemorated.
