Question
What are the halachic restrictions on a Bar Mitzva which falls on 3 Av? May we have a celebration on the day our son becomes Bar Mitzva? If so, is it considered a Se’udat Mitzva? Are we restricted in the number of guests? May we serve meat? May there be dancing?
Answer
Mazal Tov. A celebration on the actual date would be permissable providing Divrei Torah were said and meat could be eaten. However, no music would be allowed. Such a celebration should be made with close family and friends. A larger celebration can be held after the nine days.
