- Halacha
- Kashrut
- Gentile Cooking, Wine and Milk
Question
I understand you are involved and understand the Kashrut procedures of the O.U.
I have heard that there is Avkat Chalav Akum in the OUd products. Is there real Chalav Akum or just Avka?
Answer
The OU relies on the Teshuva of Rabbi Moshe Feinstein where he distinguishes between Chalav Stam as opposed to Chalav Akum. In America or similar countires, where there is strict government supervision regarding the nature of the milk, the OU will endorse a product as kosher even if it contains Chalav Stam.
