Question
B’H’, I am a mother of 3 boys. My husband and I are making Aliyah this Aug. When should I start adhering the laws of Modesty? We are currently in the process of learning on our own to become more observant. I am concerned about my dress, from the moment I walk off the plane on the Holy ground that Hashem gave us.
Answer
Mazal Tov on your Aliyah.
The obligation to dress in a modest manner is not really dependant on where you live – it applies and binds in Israel and abroad.
You are right with your feeling that it will be worse to disobey the word of Hashem in his palace than it will be outside, yet the obligation is equal in both places (Otzar Hamidrashim p.139).
However, people in there beginning of their journey towards observance may have different rules, one should be careful to run too fast lest he falls, you should be in contact with a rabbi that knows you and your level you are at, to hand over more detailed guidance.
