Question
During the counting of the Omer is it permissible to celebrate the engagement of a young Jewish couple at an afternoon tea, no music, no speeches?
Answer
One may celebrate an engagement during the Omer without music. If the party takes place on Yom Ha'atzmaut, Yom Yerushalayim or after Rosh Chodesh Sivan one may play music and have dancing.
Regarding speeches, one may have them during the Omer.
