Question
Do we need to say Shehecheyanu on the Etrog during Tu Bishbat?
Answer
The Ben Ish Chai (Re'e 11) holds one should say Shehecheyanu over eating the Etrog.
Rav Shlomo Kluger in his responsa rules that if you have already said Shehecheyanu for the shaking of the Lulav and Etrog on Succot, you can’t say again when you eat it.
Others hold that since the Etrog is a fruit the Talmud says is found on the tree all year round, the Shehecheyanu is not recited for it. (responsa Halachot Ketanot 1 233)
To avoid the doubt it will be better to say Shehecheyanu over a different fruit and have in mind to include the Etrog in the Bracha.
