Question
Can one refire china / corelle to make them kosher.
If so, can it be done in a self cleaning oven?
Answer
Most authorities rule that china can be Kashered by refireing them.(Hagalat Kelim Lepesach 10,90)This is the ruling of the Shulchan Aruch (OC 451,1). However, this must be done in oven where china is made. One cannot use a home oven for this purpose even if it gets to very high temperatures, e/g/ a self cleaning oven (ibid.). The reason for this is because if it is done in a house oven, there is always the chance that it will not be done professionally, and the utensil will not be left in the oven for enough time etc. (see Taz OC 451,2 and Hagalat Kelim ibid)
