VCR Timer to Record on Shabbat
Question
Is one allowed to set a video recorder, before Shabbat, to record a show on Shabbat, for watching after Shabbat? The TV does not go on during the recording, and no disturbance of the sanctity of the Shabbat will occur as a result.
Answer
In Israel you shouldn’t since you are benefiting from Jews breaking Shabbat.
Abroad, it is not a problem.
