Question
Which "famous" person in Jewish history did a Mitzva with enthusiasm? How can we learn from them? Is there a differnce to doing a Mitzva normally, and doing it with enthusiasm?
Answer
Many famous Jews did mitzvot with enthusiasm, and in fact "hitlahavut' - fiery passion, is a basic principle of chassidic thought. Although Lithuanian Jewish thinkers have played down emotional passion in fullfilling mitzvot, in favor of intellectual committment, the enthusiasm for study and prayer is always desireable.
