Question
Is there a problem with Potato Chips as far as Bishul Akum is concerned? Why not?
Answer
No, there's no issue here regarding Bishul Akum on potato chips. The prohibition of bishul akum applies only to delicacies and fancy foods prepared for "royal tables". Potato chips is clearly a snack (=junk) food, not usually served at Presidential feasts and royal balls today.
There is also the standard practice, in various food establishments, for the resident Mashgiach to ignite to ovens anyway, which, automatically, do away with bishul akum issues. Rabbi Aaron Adler
