Question
My daughter has married a non-Jew in a civil ceremony six years ago. She is now 38 and has joined the IVF programme to have a child. How should I react to this? As I do not accept her husband how what should I do with her children when and if she has them?
Answer
There is no pat answer to this question. Your daughterโ€™s children will be Jewish, and your grandchildren. If you can make them aware of that heritage, contact can be beneficial. I think you will need some good personal counseling on the issues here and suggest you find a Rabbi who will be sympathetic to the difficulties of your family situation.
