Taping a TV Show on Shabbat
Question
Are you allowed to tape a TV program on Shabbat if you set the timer before Shabbat?
What if you use TV which doesn’t make any noise when it starts recording?
Answer
If the program is not produced by Jews and does not involve Shabbat desecration of Jews, and if there is no likelihood of tampering with the system on Shabbat (for instance if it is silent and doesn't light up) you may set it to tape on Shabbat.
