Question
Is it permissible for the Chatan, under the Chuppah, to give the Kallah a platinum wedding band, or does the wedding band have to be gold?
Answer
It can be of any material as long as the Kallah knows its value and the value is more than a Prutah (less than one Dollar).
Some have the custom of giving a silver wedding band.
Nonetheless the common custom is to use a golden ring. (Mordechai Kidushin 484)
