Referendum
Question
Although, I am happy that the likud voters voted down Sharon’s rederendum, those people who voted do not represent (even close) the overall majority of the population of Israel. In recent polls ther majority of Israel supports a withdrawal. What do you have to say about this?
Answer
Polls are politically and legally insignificant. The polls showed that before the Likud referendum, 68% of thse eligible to vote in that referendum supported Sharon's plan. When the time came for them to make a decision, they read the plan carefully and understood that they were being asked to approve something that had nothing at all to recommend it. That said, even today, despite the headlines, present polls indicate that most people disapprove of a UNILATERAL withdrawal and forced expulsion of Jews from their homes.
