Question
My Daughter asked me about wearing Eye Shadow and She was reading Yirmeyahu 4:30 and wanted to know if it referd to Her wearing Eyeshadow ? I couldnt explain the part where it is written " You beautify yourself in vain" any answer would be helpful .
Answer
The verse is referring to the futility of Yehuda trying to find favor in the eyes of the nations who formerly admired her, and compares the Jewish nation to a woman who attempts to beautify herself in vain to attract one who has come to rob and defile her. The verse has no implication concerning eye shadow, which is a valid type of beauty enhancement, as long as it is not overtly provocative.
