Question
We have Avraham pleading in Parshat Vayera with HaShem to spare Anshei Sdom from retribution. How should we understand this? Could one imagine today our G’dolim pleading on behalf of anshei Ramalah or Gaza?
Answer
Avraham does not ask G-d to spare the wicked, only not to punish- together with the evil-doers -those righteous men who may be living in Sodom along with them. That kind of plea is possible today as well. What is more pressing, however, is the need to pray- and act- to bring an end to the Arab terror that sadly, still enjoys popular support in Ramallah and Gaza.
