Question
My seven year old son posed a question to my wife, four words - "Does HaShem need us?" Of course we need HaShem, but does he need us? If not, then would it make a difference to HaShem if people existed?
Please frame your answer in terms that an advanced seven year old could relate to.
Thank you!
Answer
The Rambam (your seven year old son should get to know who he was) teaches that the existence of G-d is not dependent on the existence of anything else while the existence of everything else is dependent on the existence of G-d. He also teaches that "Kvod Hashem"- how G-d's influence spreads through the world G-d created- increases as Man acts in the ways G-d taught him.
