Question
Although a similiar questions was asked I am looking, perhaps, for a slightly different answer...
In the community where I am learning some people are black hatters and some not since mostly Ba’aley Teshuva. People have told me black hat dress is more halachically "correct" especially in regards to davening. Why do non-Haredi Jews not wear black and is this just as halachially acceptable or not? Thank you for your time.
Answer
The Halacha requires wearing modest clothing- not loud or flashy, not provocative. As can be seen from traditional Yemenite or Spharadi clothing, religious Jews have worn clothing other than black as long as the requirements of modesty are preserved.
