Question
In a previous query about the source for a Torah prohibition of lesbianism, Rabbi Blass responded with a verse from Vayikra 18.3. I looked it up and it says nothing remotely connected to lesbianism. Please clarify. Thanks
Answer
The verse reads: "After the doings of the Land of Egypt in which you dwelt shall you not do and after the doings of the Land of Canaan into which I bring you shall you not do; neither shall you walk in their practices". The context is the chapter dealing with forbidden sexual relationships. The rabbis interpreted the verse to prohibit lesbianism along with other foreign sexual practices (Rambam Issurei Biya 21 8; Shulchan Aruch Even HaEzer 20 2).
