Question
Dear Rabbis: Greetings! Could you inform me what, if any, headwear was worn by subject servants of the high priest, administrative priests and others in the top echelon of the STE? Or if you wish, by all means, direct me to sources having the information. Also, if they wore such headwear, at what times were they allowed to remove it other than, I am assuming, at home and off duty. Thanks very much! Don Dickerson
Answer
Blessings! The headwear worn by the high-priest and the regular priests were made of the same flax (linen) material but the high-priest wraps it around his head in a round way, as opposed to the others who wrap it in a higher, conical shape. See an example of the high priests head wrap at the following link: http://www.temple.org.il/show.asp?id=31716 They all only wear their special uniforms while on duty in the Temple. The priests did not use servants. With Love of Israel, Rav Ari Shvat
