Question
Shalom kevod haRav: Is there a problem of making “seritot” on Shabbat when we cut the chalah in a wooden board? Can we cut freely, or we should be careful not to touch the board with the knife in order not to make lines (seritot) in the board? Thank you Hayim --
Answer
Shalom, One is allowed to use the cutting board for the challah in a normal way. This is because unintentional scratching onto the wood is not a malacha. It is also mekalkel (destructive labour). For all these reasons one may cut on a bread board as normal. Shabbat Shalom! Blessings,
