Question
Science has identified several species of dinosaurs from their bone remains on earth. How many of these species did Noah select to place in the Ark? and given their huge sizes, where were they quartered?
Answer
Shalom Stuart, Excellent question! Rav Kook answers, based upon an ancient rabbinic midrashic tradition, that God created and destroyed 6 worlds, before creating that which we live in. In all probability, the dinosaurs lived in those previous worlds, maybe even millions of years ago, and that’s why we find their fossils, but by Noah’s time, only about 4,350 years ago, they no longer were around. Keep sending us your good questions! With Love of Israel, Rav Ari Shvat
