Question
My daughter recently got married, and we we expecting her to come to us for the Seders. She said that she probably will go to her in-laws. I aways thought there was a custom for the couple in the first year after marriage to celebrate the Seder at the parents of the kallah. Is there any source for this that I can show my daughter?
Answer
There are different customs in different communities. These should not overule specific reasons that cause the couple to do the opposite. I would advise that you express to your daughter that you would love to have her but understand the difficulty of such a decision. Ask her to save the date for you next year and give her support. You will certainly be building a better relationship than causing strife over this issue.
