Question
I recently read an article about HaRav Yitzchak Kaduri and that he said, amongst other things, that "in the near future, another wave of natural disasters will strike the world." and he said "With the help of G-d, the soul of the Mashiach has attached itself to a person in Israel". I then read an article from a few months ago in which he was quoted saying that the disengagement will not happen, whereas clearly it did. I certainly believe that there is an element of truth to what he says, however I would like to know the correct approach to take when reading these kind of articles. Do I take them literally? Should I understand his predictions as calculations which can be wrong or as Ruach HaKodesh?
Answer
I would first of all very much doubt these kinds of statements quoted by journalists; they are not the most reliable source especially when it comes to quoting rabbis, it may definitely not be what he really said or meant. More so, as great as any rabbi may be – he is not a prophet and therefore can be wrong; alternatively it can be a wish or a prayer of what should happen if we deserve, depending on our deeds and behavior. Nonetheless, for the real answer you will have to ask the Rav himself.
