Question
Does listening to remixes of various movie themes, video game songs, and cover versions of various popular music constitute theft?
Answer
Shalom, Thank you for your question. It would seem that if the secular law of the country allows it, then it is permitted. However, if this is an infringement of the local legal system, then it may be considered as theft under Jewish law. This will depend on how the “listening” is done. For example, if a radio station broadcasts such music, it would be very hard to say that a listener was violating the laws of theft. On the other hand – listening to such music on illegal websites might be a poblem. Blessings.
